Tips For Safe Computing - to Small Business

Ensure you have the latest updates
Install updates and security patches on all servers, desktop and laptop PCs.
• To get the latest updates for your Windows operating system, software and hardware, go to Microsoft Update (U.S.). It scans your computer to determine which updates you need and then you can download any or all of them.
• To improve the security and stability of your Microsoft Office software, go to Office Update (U.S.) and follow the Check for Updates link.
If you use Windows XP Professional, there is an even easier way to get updates. Simply activate the Automatic Updates feature, which allows your PC to automatically notify you of important updates once they are made available.

Reduce the risk of viruses
There are numerous things you can do to protect your computer and your network against viruses. Using anti-virus software and keeping it current is the first step, but there are other things you can do:
• Use the default security settings in Office 2003, which is the most secure version of Office released to date
• Visit the Office Update (U.S.) site for the latest updates and patches
• Never open suspicious e-mail messages or file attachments; take advantage of the state-of-the-art junk mail filter in Outlook 2003 to send suspicious messages directly to your Junk E-mail Folder
Use Windows Security Centre to manage your settings
Get a clear picture of the security settings on your PC using the single, unified view provided in the Windows Security Centre. Adjust them as necessary to the level of protection you are comfortable with. The settings that guard your PC are automatically applied to files and content delivered via the internet, helping safeguard confidential business data.

Encrypt sensitive information on your laptop
If you travel on business and use a laptop that runs Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional, guard against data theft. Use the Encrypted File System (EFS) to encrypt sensitive files and folders. If the laptop is stolen, your files and folders are protected because only those with a special decryption key can access the encrypted files.

Download internet files from trusted sources only
If you're unsure if the files you want to download are safe, consider downloading them to a disk separate from your hard drive, such as a CD or floppy. Then you can scan the files with your virus scanner.

Use password encryption to protect Office files
Improved encryption technology has strengthened password security in Word 2003 and Excel 2003 and extends password encryption to PowerPoint 2003. Look under the Tools menu in each of these three programs to activate password protection. This is an effective way to restrict access to confidential business information.

Clean your hard drive before you discard a PC
If you're getting a new PC or notebook and your old one is being discarded, be sure to remove any sensitive business or personal information before you let it go. This doesn't mean simply deleting files and emptying your Recycle Bin. Your options include reformatting the hard drive or acquiring software that wipes it clean.

Use a firewall
If your company uses always-on broadband to connect to the internet, install a firewall as a basic line of defence against outside intruders. There are two basic types: 1) a software firewall such as the Microsoft Internet Connection Firewall that's included in Windows XP Professional protects the machine it runs on, and 2) a hardware firewall that blocks all traffic between the internet and your entire network except for traffic from senders who are specifically trusted.

Never surf the web from a server
As the command centre for your entire network, a server typically stores critical business information. If your server is compromised, it puts all of that data as well as your entire network at risk.

Be smart about passwords
Always use strong passwords that are at least eight characters long and a combination of lower and upper case letters, numbers and symbols. Don't use the same password repeatedly and make it a point to change your passwords frequently. If you have trouble remembering passwords, consider using a pass-phrase, which you can do in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. A pass-phrase might be something like "I had pizza for lunch Tuesday."

the Computer Become Slowed down

I have been attending to a whole host of computer users recently who have been wondering why their computer has got so slow.

There are, of course, many reasons why a computer slows down but an extremely common reason these days is the fact that your computer simply doesn’t have the resources to cope with the modern world any more.
A great example of something that suffers under the pressure of resource hungry programs mean is RAM – Random Access Memory – Having adequate RAM is essential to a speedy computer. Without enough your computer will grind to a halt and all you will hear is the whirring of the hard disk every time you move you mouse – sound familiar?

People often think that if their computer ran ok when it was bought then it should still be capable of running the same speed now. This is true to a degree but only if you strip back any software you may be using back to the same software you used on day one.

I am shocked to visit people who are running Windows XP with only 256mb of RAM. Computer suppliers were selling cheap computers with this minimal amount of RAM right up to about 3 years ago. With just Windows XP on and nothing more running the computer would be sluggish, install all the updates – especially service pack 3 (This will install by default if you have automatic updates on) and your computer will grind to a halt.

Another huge change that has occurred since the days XP could run ok with 256mb of RAM is internet security. With firewalls, antivirus and adware/spyware programs running resources are quickly consumed. These programs have accelerated in size over the last few years with all the new threats the internet brings. These have become very resource hungry.

The point I am trying to get at is that you need to ensure that your computer has enough RAM – 512mb is just about acceptable but will struggle. I normally recommend 1gb minimum for XP and 2gb minimum for Vista.

If you are unsure how much RAM you have then you can check by looking at your system properties and here is a handy shortcut to get there – within windows press and hold the windows key on your keyboard followed by the pause button.

If you find that you need more RAM it is generally a simple procedure to change and at the moment RAM is pretty cheap so get in there quickly!

Tips on Laptop Repair

Laptops are complicated pieces of equipment but repairing one may not be as expensive as a laptop repair technician may lead you to believe. It is important to carry out thorough research before embarking on a laptop yourself. Ensure that you have a few basic items to assist you rather than making the common mistake of grabbing anything nearby. A Laptop is not an inexpensive item to replace so it is worth avoiding unnecessary mistakes.

This article is intended as a rough guide of tips for laptop repair, there is plenty of information out there on the internet that will help with specific enquiries. Make sure you ask all the questions before you begin to attempt a repair yourself, if you don’t do the research you may be charged more for someone to correct the mistakes that you have made. Should you decide to undertake a repair be sure that you have a good understanding of what needs to be done, if you don’t have the first idea seek professional help.

Before you begin it is sensible to make sure you have long nosed tweezers, an electric static discharge mat, a Teflon wedge, needle nose pliers and Phillips head screwdrivers size 0 & 1. Take a back-up of everything on the hard drive before beginning the repair, just in case. It is best if possible for the repair to take place in a room without carpet.

One word of advice if you are playing around with the LCD the backlight inverter can give you quite a nasty shock if the laptop is powered up. So ensure that the laptop is switched off and unplugged from the mains. It is also sensible to remove the laptops battery and hard drive before beginning a repair.

Obviously if you are a novice to laptop repair you will probably not own anti-static gear like wrist straps etc, if there is a likelihood of you carrying out laptop repairs regularly it may be worth investing in the anti-static gear, rather than killing off your laptop and having to dump it in the rubbish.

When carrying out a repair do not disassemble the laptop unless it is necessary to do so. Try to ensure the environment you are to work in is clean and make sure that you have the correct tools. Before beginning the repair make sure that you test the machine properly, you need to have the correct symptoms to diagnose the fault. If you need to remove any parts of the laptop take care to keep the parts in a safe place where they won’t get damaged. When removing screws keep them with each part they have been taken from, this will help when reassembling the laptop. When fitting the laptop back together use the correct size screws for each part, this will prevent you ending up with screws that simply do not fit the holes you are left with. Before disconnecting connectors make sure that you have had a good look at how they work, it is worth making notes for yourself as you carry out the repair as it will help jog your memory.

6. Masukkan nilai yang anda tawarkan lalu klik tombol Continue
7. Anda harus terdaftar untuk melakukan penawaran di eBay. Jika telah terdaftar, masukkan user ID dan Password eBay Anda kemudian klik tombol submit. Jika belum terdaftar, klik tombol Register lalu ikuti perintahnya.
8. Setelah terdaftar, Anda akan menginformasikan penawaran dan menerima pemberitahuan tentang penawaran tersebut.

E-commerce, kependekan dari Electronik Commerce ( Perdagangan Secara Elektronik ), merupakan transaksi bisnis yang terjadi dalam jaringan elektronik, seperti internet. Tiga jenis e-commerce yaitu Perusahaan – Ke – Konsumen (Business – To – Contumer – B2C), Konsumen – Ke – Konsumen (Costumer – T0 – Costumer – C2C), dan Perusahaan – Ke – Perusahaan (Business – To – Business – B2B). B2C adalah penjualan barang dan jasa kepada masyarakat umum. Contoh perusahaan yang melakukan kegiatan B2C yaitu Dell. Alih – alih berkunjung ke toko komputer untuk membeli komputer, kita dapat memesan langsung dari situs Dell tersebut.

Seorang konsumen dapat mengunjungi perusahaan online melalui toko elektronik (Electronic Storefront), yang berisi keterangan produk, gambar – gambar tentang produk, dan keranjang belanja. Dengan keranjang belanja (Shopping Cart), kita dapat mengumpulkan pembelian. Ketika siap untuk membayar, kita memasukkan data pribadi dan cara pembayaran, biasanya lebih disukai jika menggunakan sambungan internet yang aman.

Jika membeli dari suatu perusahaan, konsumen dapat membeli dari konsumen lainnya. Contoh, dengan adanya lelang online (Online Auction), kita dapat menawar suatu barang yang sedang dilelang oleh orang lain. Penawar harga tertinggi pada akhir periode penawaran dapat membeli barang tersebut. C2C terjadi ketika seorang konsumen menjual langsung ke orang lain, seperti pada lelang online. eBay adalah salah satu lelang online yang paling populer.

Meskipun demikian, hampir semua transaksi e-commerce terjadi antara perusahaan dengan perusahaan, yang biasa disebut B2B. Banyak perusahaan yang menyediakan barang dan jasa untuk perusahaan lain, seperti perusahaan periklanan online, rekrutment, kredit, penjualan, penelitian pasar, dukungan teknis dan pelatihan.
